Week 9

While researching for this week’s discussion post, I found an article from Technology Magazine called "The Rise of Big Game Hunting: Cyberattacks on Major Firms", and I thought it was super relevant to what we've been talking about in class, especially with how fast AI is becoming part of the cybersecurity world.

What really caught my attention is how attackers are now using AI to make their attacks more believable and harder to detect. For example, they're using deepfake audio to impersonate executives and generating more realistic phishing emails using AI. This makes it easier for them to trick employees and bypass even some of the strongest technical defenses. It's a reminder that cybersecurity isn't just about software; it's also about human awareness.

The article also talks about supply chain attacks, which have been a growing issue lately. It mentions the Qantas data breach where millions of customers’ data were compromised, not because Qantas was sloppy, but because an outside vendor was. That shows how important it is to keep an eye on not just your systems, but also the companies you work with.

I think this article is especially interesting because of how it connects AI with newer, more complex threats. It’s a good reminder that cybersecurity is always changing, and we need to keep adapting to stay ahead.
